What is Freight Forwarding?

A freight forwarder (also known as a Non-Vessel Operating Common Carrier (NVOCC)), is a person or company like Oakbridge Logistics Ltd that organizes shipments for individuals or companies to get goods from one place to another, generally overseas.

Forwarders contract with a carrier or often multiple carriers to move their customers goods. A forwarder generally does not move the goods themselves but acts as an expert within the logistics network.

Freight Forwarders employ a variety of different carriers and shipping methods including ships, airplanes, trucks, railroads and even individual courier agents. Sometimes we, the Forwarding Agent will use multiple methods for a single shipment.

For example, we may arrange to have cargo moved from your warehouse firstly by a van to our depot, then onto the airport on a large truck, flown to the destination city, then moved from the airport to the recipients address by another truck.
